Dr. Claire Boyer (she/her/hers)

Approach: I aim to both support and challenge you. My approach is existential, insight-driven and relational in nature. This often entails empowering you to confront and examine the deeper parts of yourself and your experience that may feel daunting. Doing so can help us understand why we think, behave and feel the way that we do in order to bolster our sense of worth, connection and purpose in the wake of change.

Values & Style: My clinical style is transparent, warm, curious and authentic (with some humor thrown in for good measure). I strive to consider and highlight the presence and impact of my biases and practice by my values of holistic, affirming and culturally- and trauma-informed care.

Focus Areas: I provide targeted, specialized treatment within my areas of training and expertise (adjustment issues). None of us should be expected to know how to effectively navigate change, grief or uncertainty alone; we aren’t born with a road map. If you’re struggling to adapt to a transition, diagnosis/injury, stressor, or loss, you’re in the right place. Feel free to reach out to see if your presenting concerns fall within my focus areas.

Training & Experience: I received my masters and doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University’s School of Graduate Psychology with an emphasis in health psychology. I completed my doctoral internship at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System and my post-doctoral residency at the VA Portland Healthcare System. Over the course of my extensive training and experience in a variety of medical settings, I have aided individuals with cancers, injuries, MS, burns, Crohn’s, Glaucoma, strokes and other chronic or terminal health conditions.

Therapy for a cause

Dogs provide us with unconditional love and support on a daily basis - their own form of therapy. I wanted to find a way to infuse my love and appreciation for dogs into my business, so I decided to team up with a local animal welfare organization.

Five percent of Boyer Psychology’s quarterly profits are donated to PAW Team, a nonprofit that provides veterinary services to the pets of people experiencing houselessness or poverty in Portland. Learn more about their awesome work here.
